CIVIL WAR THIRTEEN-STAR BATTLE FLAG FROM A UNION SOLDIER, 1861-1865.
Est. $1,000 - $1,500
SOLD: $27,600 ($23,000)

Purportedly from Wyandotte, Michigan. 26 ½ x 67 ½ inches. The flag encased in a modern frame with an acid-free mat and note regarding provenance inscribed, “This flag was given to my father Geo W. Marshall when but a lad of nine by a Civil War Veteran. Neighbor – whose wife had made it for him to carry in his knapsack – which he did for the Four Years, 1861-1865. They had no children. A flag was a big thing to a boy of 9, and my daddy like most boys could talk of nothing else – so they gave it to him as he prized it – so do I. / Jessie S. Malcolm.”
